Dispensing and Medication Management
- Dispense prescription medications accurately and in accordance with physician instructions.
- Review prescriptions for accuracy, proper dosages, and potential interactions or contraindications.
- Counsel patients on the correct usage, potential side effects, and storage of medications.
Patient Care and Consultation
- Provide health and wellness advice, including over-the-counter remedies, lifestyle changes, and immunizations.
- Monitor patient responses to treatments and collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize therapy.
- Address patient concerns or questions about medications and treatments.
Inventory and Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain inventory of pharmaceutical supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
- Ensure compliance with local and national regulations regarding controlled substances and prescription medications.
- Maintain accurate records of prescriptions, transactions, and other pharmacy operations.
Education and Training
- Stay informed about new drugs, therapies, and advancements in the healthcare field.
- Train and supervise pharmacy technicians or assistants.
- Participate in community outreach programs to promote public health awareness.
Quality Assurance
- Conduct regular audits to ensure the accuracy of prescriptions and adherence to safety protocols.
- Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance pharmacy services.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology, drug interactions, and therapeutic uses.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient counseling and team collaboration.
- Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in dispensing medications.
- Proficiency in using pharmacy management systems and software.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s or Doctorate degree in Pharmacy (BPharm or PharmD).
- Licensure: Active pharmacist license as required by the governing body.
- Experience:
- 1–3 years of experience in a retail, clinical, or hospital pharmacy setting preferred.
- Certifications: Certification in immunization delivery or specialized areas (e.g., oncology, geriatrics) is advantageous.
