Job Title: Infection Control Nurse

Job Description: The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of infection prevention and control programs within the healthcare facility. This role involves monitoring and mitigating infection risks, educating staff on best practices, and ensuring compliance with infection control policies and standards.

Surveillance and Monitoring:

  • Conduct routine infection surveillance across all units and departments.
  • Investigate and report healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of infection data and trends.

Policy Development and Implementation:

  • Develop and update infection prevention and control policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international infection control standards, such as CDC, WHO, and OSHA guidelines.

Education and Training:

  • Train and educate healthcare staff on infection control practices, including hand hygiene, isolation precautions, and sterilization techniques.
  • Conduct workshops, simulations, and competency assessments on infection prevention.

Compliance and Auditing:

  • Perform regular audits to ensure adherence to infection control protocols.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.

Outbreak Management:

  • Respond promptly to infection outbreaks, conduct investigations, and implement containment measures.
  • Coordinate with public health authorities during infectious disease events.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, environmental services, and laboratory staff, to minimize infection risks.
  • Participate in infection control committees and quality improvement initiatives.

Reporting:

  • Prepare and present reports on infection rates, trends, and prevention measures to hospital leadership and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure timely reporting of communicable diseases to public health agencies.

Patient and Staff Safety:

  • Advocate for safe practices to protect patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Monitor and guide the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualification and experience:

  • BSc Nursing or GNM, BSc Nursing or GNM + Infection Control course with minimum 2 years of experience in Infection control.
