Industry Description: The construction industry in the Maldives is a vital and rapidly evolving sector, driven primarily by the booming tourism industry and the need for infrastructure development. With a steady influx of tourists necessitating the expansion and enhancement of resorts, hotels, and recreational facilities, construction projects are constantly underway. Additionally, the government’s focus on urban development, particularly in the densely populated capital city of Malé, has spurred the growth of residential, commercial, and public infrastructure projects.

Job Title: Civil Helper

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  1. Assist skilled workers such as masons, carpenters, and equipment operators in various construction tasks.
  2. Load and unload construction materials and move them to work areas.
  3. Prepare construction sites by clearing obstacles, debris, and ensuring a clean work environment.
  4. Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, and other materials under the direction of a supervisor.
  5. Set up and take down ladders, scaffolding, and other temporary structures.
  6. Use hand and power tools to perform basic tasks such as drilling, cutting, and assembling materials.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  2. Previous experience in construction or a similar field is an advantage but not required.
  3. Basic knowledge of construction tools and materials.

Job Title: Mason

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  1. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of masonry structures.
  2. Build, repair, and maintain walls, floors, partitions, fireplaces, chimneys, and other structures.
  3. Lay bricks, concrete blocks, stones, and other materials to construct or repair structures.
  4. Prepare surfaces and materials by cleaning, mixing, and applying mortar or other bonding agents.
  5. Measure and cut materials to specified dimensions, ensuring accuracy and precision.

Qualifications:

  1. High school, diploma or equivalent.
  2. Proven experience as a Mason or in a similar role is an advantage.
  3. In-depth knowledge of construction and masonry techniques.
  4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

Job Title: Furniture Carpenter

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  1. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and design specifications to determine project requirements and materials needed.
  2. Select, measure, and mark wood or other materials to specified dimensions.
  3. Cut, shape, and assemble wood components using hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machines.
  4. Join and fasten pieces together to construct furniture items such as tables, chairs, cabinets, and beds.
  5. Sand, stain, paint, or finish wood surfaces to enhance their appearance and durability.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Proven experience as a Furniture Carpenter or in a similar woodworking role.
  3. Extensive knowledge of woodworking techniques, tools, and materials.

Job Title: Shutering Carpenter

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  1. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the dimensions, shapes, and designs of formwork required.
  2. Measure, cut, and shape materials such as wood, plywood, metal, and plastic for formwork.
  3. Assemble and install formwork to support concrete structures such as beams, columns, slabs, walls, and foundations.
  4. Secure formwork in place with nails, screws, bolts, or clamps to ensure stability and accuracy.
  5. Inspect formwork for defects, ensuring it is properly aligned and sealed to prevent concrete leakage.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Proven experience as a Shuttering Carpenter or in a similar role in the construction industry.
  3. In-depth knowledge of construction and formwork techniques.
  4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

Job Title: Welder

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  1. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the appropriate welding requirements.
  2. Select and set up welding equipment, including torches, arcs, and welding machines.
  3. Weld components in flat, vertical, and overhead positions using various welding methods such as MIG, TIG, stick, and arc welding.
  4. Inspect welded surfaces and structures to identify flaws, ensuring they meet quality and safety standards.
  5. Perform welding operations on a variety of materials including steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and other alloys.
  6. Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Proven experience as a Welder or in a similar role.
  3. In-depth knowledge of welding techniques, equipment, and safety procedures.
  4. Ability to read and interpret technical documents and blueprints.
