Job Title: MAG WELDERS
Job Summary:
MAG welders, also known as Metal Active Gas welders, specialize in joining metal parts using an electric arc and active shielding gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) or a mix of argon and CO2. This process is often used in industrial settings, especially for welding steel and other ferrous metals. MAG welding is commonly applied in heavy industry, construction, and manufacturing due to its efficiency and ability to weld thicker materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to understand the welding process and materials required.
- Set up and calibrate MAG welding equipment, adjusting voltage, current, wire feed speed, and gas flow to suit the material and job requirements.
- Weld various metal components, mainly steel, in different positions (flat, vertical, overhead) using the MAG process.
- Prepare and align metal parts by cleaning, cutting, or grinding them to ensure proper fit and avoid contamination.
- Monitor the welding process to ensure precision, strong weld integrity, and adherence to design specifications.
- Inspect completed welds for defects, quality, and strength using visual inspection or precision tools like calipers and gauges.
- Repair defective welds or rework components as necessary.
- Follow safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), maintaining a clean workspace, and operating within industry safety guidelines.
- Maintain welding equipment, perform basic troubleshooting, and report any technical issues or equipment malfunctions.
Qualifications:
- 2 years of proven experience as a MAG welder in ship or boat building.
- In-depth knowledge of the MAG welding process and equipment.
